Common Wheel Project
Glasgow
The
Common Wheel Project aims to provide therapy
for people with mental health problems and also
to recycle old bicycles. The intended benefits
to the patients include enhancing quality and
purpose of life, building confidence and self
value, reducing dependence on social support

Community
Can Cycle
Glasgow
http://www.communitycancycle.org.uk
Community Can Cycle was started in 2000 by a
group of dedicated local people who identified
the need for a bicycle repair service for the
children of low income families in Castlemilk,
Glasgow. The main activity is a free bicycle
repair service for local children. They also
receive hundreds of donated bicycles which we
refurbish and sell to local low-income families
at a cost of between £10 and £30. They have
also entered into partnership with the local
credit union to allow bicycle purchases to be
paid up at £1 per week.

The Bike Station
Edinburgh
www.thebikestation.org.uk
The
Bike Station is a bike recycling project based
at Edinburgh Waverley Station that takes all
unwanted bikes from members of the public and
from civic amenity sites. All bikes are either
refurbished or dismantled for scrap, with all
useable parts kept. Refurbished bikes are either
sold at the weekly sales, or distributed through
the Bike Station's referral bike scheme. The
project diverts up to three tonnes of waste
from landfill and gets around 100 bikes back
on the road per month.
The Bike Station runs two community workshops
a week for people to come and work on their
own bikes, and provides training both to volunteers
and other groups, both in the workshop and beyond.
It also works with schools and community groups,
offering cycle training and other bike-related
activities.
The workshop sells every kind of second hand
spare part imagineable.
